Review of #hashtag fish and chips... Green Lanes

You can't be called a Londoner if you don't like Fish n Chips!

I am from North London where there is a fish and chip shop on almost every road so I am spoilt for choice!

Whenever a new fish and chips takeaway appears I make it my business to check it out.

Recently I have discovered a new fish and chips joint pop up on Green Lanes but it does not look like your typical small take away, because it is actually a restaurant!

It is called #hashtagfishandchips. I know... You cannot get any more simple and modern than that!
As I walked inside the staff instantly greeted me then asked "take away or eat in?" I decided to eat in and to my surprise I was given the freedom to choose my own table! I found a nice, spacious, cosy corner further into the restaurant. The presence of the fireplace provided a homely feeling.
Upon getting comfy at my table I was presented with #hashtagfishandchips' menu.

At first I could not choose which fish to order but I ended up getting cod for £6.20 with a small portion of chips at £1.90.

I do not drink alcohol and since I was not thirsty, I was not in the mood for an over the top priced basic soft drink so I did not get a drink!

Whilst waiting for my meal to arrive a waitress unexpectedly placed a rather large square bowl on the table brimming with a colourful salad!

It reminded me of a Turkish salad and to my surprise it was full of flavour!

In the dressing I could taste olive oil and vinegar with a hint of sweetness. It consisted of chopped tomatoes, red pepper (capsicum), radish, rocket and a lemon wedge.
Still waiting I decided to take some sneaky photos of the interior.

The seating can probably hold about 40 people give or take (like I said earlier for a fish and chips shop, well in this case, restaurant, it was quite large).

What caught my eyes were the wooden tables and walls as they created a seaside vibe like you were sitting at Southend rather than in the City.

The walls had blue waves painted on a white background which had a picture of all the types of fish you can order from the menu so you can get an idea if you cannot choose. I did not actually notice this till after I ordered my food because this wall was behind me.

The lighting was slightly dim, hence why the photos are a bit dark, but I personally prefer dim lighting because my eyes are quite sensitive to bright lights!

Time for the main event...

Fish and Chips!!!
Can we just all take a moment please to admire this... Ok tuck in!

My first impressions about this when it was placed in front of me was OMG this plate is ginormous, I've got no chance of finishing it.

Then I thought to myself, they must have made a mistake and served me a large portion chips instead of a small!

Then I was thinking they even gave tartar sauce and more salad under the cod!

The presentation was very similar to Harvester located inside The O2, North Greenwich, South-East London.

Anyways I dipped a chip into the tartar sauce which had a nice flavour, texture and colour, different to the usual and not as yummy like the tartar sauce from a McDonald's fillet - o - fish, lol, but it was edible.

The chips were extremely hot, which was perfect because I can't stand cold chips!

Next with haste, I picked up the onion vinegar and soaked my chips with it like there was no tomorrow, cause you literally don't know when the world will end so that could have been the last time I taste onion vinegar!

After that I sprinkled some salt, not too much, nobody wants high blood pressure! Followed by more onion vinegar! (Yes I love onion vinegar on my chips, if you haven't tried it yet you better try it after reading this, they have it in all fish n chips shops b.t.w.; you may have to ask if it isn't on show)

Had to cut up my fish because it was super duper hot and I was desperate to taste it.

The batter was crispy but not hard or chewy and the cod was cooked perfectly. The white meat just flaked away. To give the cod some extra flavour I squeezed the lemon wedge over it.

The whole meal was delightful and the portion size was very generous, I am not gonna lie, at first I was sceptical, thinking I would be starving afterwards!

When I finished the staff came to collect my empty plate rather quickly, so be careful if you aren't completely finished otherwise you're plate will disappear before your eyes! That has happened to me before, I have warned you!

I was so full up from my main that I had no room left for dessert! #Sorrynotsorry
I'm sure the desserts here are great, maybe I will try one next time, cause I will definitely be back again for round 2!

My ratings:
Decor: 7/10
Hygiene: 10/10
Food presentation: 10/10
Food: 6/10
Service: 6/10

Overall rating: 6/10

I definitely recommend coming here if you are in the area just passing through or live nearby.

If you want to have a quiet meal try and get there for 6 - 7pm. It should be quite empty at this time as this is the time I arrived, there may be a few take away customers in there but they wait near the entrance by the window so won't bother you.

If you want to go as a group go ahead, I'm sure you will have a memorable social, they have plenty of drinks on the menu.

Forget all the turkish restaurants for one day and the tempting McDonald's opposite and just order yourself some basic British Fish and Chips.

If you don't fancy eating in then order a take away. They will give you a nice large sturdy cardboard box and paper bag for your tasty grub to carry home.

Here is the address for #hashtagfishandchips:

369A Green Lanes,
Harringay,
London,
N4 1DY
UK

Visit #hashtag fish and chips - their website has the full menu I was shown when I ate in with prices.

**They also have a kids menu and a lunchtime special menu from 12pm-4pm where you can get a meal for slightly cheaper.

Hopefully I have tempted you into getting some fish and chips right now wherever you are!
